Project for December 29, 2010

Our project for this week is a really fun and easy way to organize some photos for last year or to get ready for the New Year.

It is 4 mini albums that fit into a bookshelf box. The minis are sized for full size 4x6 photos- I didn't embellish the insides at all-but you certainly could add some embellishments and paper.

Weekly Project Preview- Flip Top Box with an Accordion Album

This week our project is a really fun little flip top box, with a mini accordion album that fits inside. The accordion album has space for 5 little tags or gift cards.

10 Days of Photo Ornaments- Day 10 a Spinning Christmas Ball

Well, we are at the last day of our photo ornaments- this has been so much fun.

Our last ornament is an easy one, a series of strips that form a spinning Christmas ball with a photo dangling inside.

Supplies:

5- 1/2 x 12 strips of double sided patterned paper

18" or twine or thin ribbon

2 brads

2 wallet sized photos (2x3)

2" metal rim tag or 2 1/4- 2 1/2" circle punched from cardstock

Directions:

Stack all of the strips up, punch a hole using a cropadile through all layers at the center point.

Insert brad through hole.

Punch a hole in each end of the strip through all layers.

Insert brad through all layers on one end of strip, bend the strips into a circle and insert the rest of the strips onto the brad. The strips should form a circle.

Punch out photo with a 2" circle punch. Adhere to tag or cardstock circle. Punch a hole in the top and tie 6" of twine to tag.

Wrap twine around backside of brad and tie so tag will hang in the center of the circle.

Carefully move strips into a star pattern around circle.

Tie remaining twine to the top brad as a hanger.

10 Days of Photo Ornaments- Day 9 A Mini Explosion Box

This may be my favorite ornament so far- a mini mini explosion box. I had this idea this morning in the shower- I do my best thinking with my head under the water- funny how that works!

It is just 2x2, and it looks like a little present hanging on your tree, but when you lift off the lid the sides fold out to reveal your mini photos. Bam! Explosion. Well, maybe not an explosion exactly.

Supplies:

1- 12 x 12 Double Sided Pattern Paper or Cardstock
24" of ribbon
Misc Christmas Embellishments

Tools:
ScorPal or scoring tool and ruler
Cropadile hole punch
Misc. paper punches

Cut your paper into 3 squares
6x6
5 3/4 x 5 3/4
4 1/8 x 4 1/8

Start with the 6x6, score along left edge at 2", turn a quarter turn and score again at 2", repeat working your way around all four sides.

Repeat with 5 3/4 x 5 3/4.
Trim out the corner square pieces of both squares, they should look like a cross.


Adhere together in the center, reach in from the corner and punch a hole, repeat on the opposite corner.


Lid- Use the 4 1/8 x 4 1/8 square, score along the left edge at 1", turn a quarter turn and score again at 1", repeat for all four sides.


Clip along score line from edge to next score line. Repeat for all four sides.

Reach in on the corner and punch holes as you did for the box bottom. Apply adhesive on flaps and fold into box top shape.


Thread ribbon or rick rack through holes at the bottom of the box, then thread through holes in the lid. Tie an overhand knot in the ends on top of the lid.

Now you should be able to fold the sides in and place the lid on top.

Add photos to the sides of your box fold outs and any embellishments you desire.

10 Days of Photo Ornaments- Day 8 - Photo Lantern

Happy Saturday before Christmas!

Today's ornament is a really cool and different Photo Lantern. I printed my photos on regular copy paper so that when the lantern is hung over a Christmas light the pictures will glow.

Supplies:
2 3/4 x 10 1/2" Cardstock or single sided patterned paper
Tinsel stem or 12" of ribbon
1 1/2 x 1 1/2" Photos printed on paper or vellum

Tools:
ScorPal or scoring tool and ruler
1 1/2" square punch or post it note and trimmer
Border punch or decorative scissors
Hole punch

Score cardstock at 2 1/2, 5, 7 1/2 and 10" marks

Punch one long edge with a border punch or decorative scissors

On inside of lantern mark 1/2" from top edge, position square punch and punch out windows, or cut a post it note into 1 1/2" square, position, draw around it with a pencil and cut with a paper trimmer. Fold along score lines.

Cut out photos with about 1/2" of paper around outside, apply adhesive around perimeter of opening and glue photos in openings.

Decorate frames with jewels or other Christmas embellishments.

Punch a hole in the top of two panels of the lantern (the panels should be opposite from each other)
Apply adhesive on tab and glue lantern into shape.
Insert tinsel stem or ribbon into holes to create hanger.

Hang over Christmas light.

10 Days of Photo Ornaments- Day 7- Matchbook Album

Happy Holidays!

Our Day 7 Ornament is a fun Matchbook mini mini album. It is sized for your wallet sized photos- or even some half size (3x4).

We used Echo Park Paper Company's I Love Christmas paper and stickers. You can make the book out of patterned paper or cardstock- but it should be cardstock weight.

Supplies:

Patterned Paper or Cardstock for cover- 3 1/2 x 10 1/4

Patterned Paper or Cardstock for pages- 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 for each page

Brad

12" of ribbon

Stickers or other embellishments

Directions:

Score cover (3 1/2 x 10 1/4) at 1/2", 1", 5 1/2", 6"

Fold along score lines, folding up bottom.

Find center of bottom and punch a hole though all layers.

Score pages ( 4 1/4 x 3 1/4) at 1/2" along one of the short ends. Repeat for all pages.

Stack pages together and insert in book, punch a hole through all layers and fasten pages to book with a brad.

Punch holes on top folded area- about 1" from ends. Insert 12" of ribbon and tie on the inside of the cover.

Decorate your cover and pages as desired.

It has a fold out accordion piece on the left page-with space for 9-10 more full sized photos- how great for Christmas pages!

Photo Ornaments Day 6- A Spool Ornament

Happy 6th Day of Photo Ornaments!

Our fun ornament for today is patterned paper and a photo wrapped around a wooden spool. I added some punch out pieces to the spool ends and a button dangle.

You can use any size wooden spools for this, or even plastic spools, you just need to alter your measurements accordingly.

Supplies:

2" wooden spool from craft store

1 3/4 x 5" piece of patterned paper

2- 1 3/8" circle punch outs of patterned paper

1" circle punched from cardstock scrap

1 foot bakers twine

1 foot ribbon

6 buttons of various sizes

6" of wire

2x3 photo- trimmed to 1 1/2 x 3.

Directions:

Punch a hole in the center of your 1 3/8" circle punch outs, glue to the ends of the spool.

Glue strip of paper around spool.

Tie an overhand knot in the end of the bakers twine. Thread buttons onto twine, from smallest to largest.

Tie twine under last button creating a loop.

Loop ribbon through twine loop, tie ends of ribbon together.

Bend wire in a V and use to thread ribbon loop up through spool center.

Add adhesive to button and adhere under spool.

Adhere photo to patterned paper, making sure you get adhesive under all edges. Write date on 1" circle punch out and glue onto spool.
