Have you ever had . . .

one of those projects that was supposed to take 1 - maybe 2 hours to do and it took 8?

This morning I started updating our website with the registration information for our Winter 2011 Workshop Weekend. So exciting. I love when we start posting all of the ideas that we have been talking about and the registrations start coming in.

So, I got up at 5:30 to get started so we would be live by 8:00. Ummm, why did my computer have to install some update from Microsoft last night? I don't have any idea what was installed but it ran so SLLLOOOOWWWW today that it almost got a permanent vacation. So, after so many crashes and restarts that I couldn't count and problems with Paypal and wierd overlapping text that was completely illegible, I finally got our site mostly working and updated at 2 pm- yes that is slightly later than my 8 am goal.

So to recap, 8 hours, 12 cups of coffee (yes I drank a whole 12 cup carafe of coffee), 1 peppermint mocha, 1 diet coke and 2 slices of 9 grain toast later, we are ready for registrations. But guess what- we already have our first chick signed up! Whooppee! It a scrapbooker from Oregon who is coming up for the weekend with her friends. So excited to meet new scrapbookers.

If you want to see what we have planned or to register for our Winter 2011 Workshop Weekend, visit our Workshop Page on our website.

Okay, I had better get busy putting our photo ornament for the day online.

Photo Ornaments- Day 5 A Paper Folded Medallion/Rosette

Happy 5th Day of Photo Ornaments

Today we are making a paper medallion/rosette with a photo in the center. This is such a beautiful ornament, and fun to make in lots of different sizes. We are making the smaller one (4" in diameter). If you want to make the large ornament (6" in diameter), cut your paper into 3x12 strips (you need 2) and then make a smaller medallion to glue on top.

You can hang jingle bells or a tag with the date from the bottom of your rosette.

Supplies:
2-2x12 Strips of patterned paper
2- 2 3/4" circles
6" of ribbon to hang
12" of ribbon for jingle bells
2 jingle bells

Also need: ScorPal or scoring tool, 2 3/4" circle punch and 2 1/2" circle punch or use the Cricut, decorative border punch or decorative scissors.

Directions:
Score 2x12 strips of patterned paper every 1/2"

Use border punch or decorative scissor to cut one long edge of each piece.
Accordion fold along score lines.

Glue strips together to form one long strip, then glue into a circle.
Apply glue all over one of the 2 3/4" circles, push accordion folded circle into a medallion shape- the decorative edge should be on the outside, the plain edge will be the center. Adhere medallion to the circle.

Glue second 2 3/4" circle on the other side, sandwiching medallion between. Hold until glue dries

Punch out photo with 2 1/2" circle punch. Add to center.

Tie 6" of ribbon to the top for a hanger. Tie 12" of ribbon to the bottom and hang jingle bells from bottom.

10 Days of Photo Ornaments- Day 4

Today's Photo Ornament is actually a garland of photos- great to hang on your tree, a wreath or a swag of greenery. I got this idea from a project Jessica Sprague taught at Creative Escape.

The photos are a collection of pictures of my niece Parker from her 2nd Christmas last year. So cute.

So, I figured out after it was all done that if I was going to hang this on my Christmas tree, I should have put photos on each side of the pieces. That is not in my video instructions, I changed it after I was almost finished. You need to adhere the photos upside down on the backside of the shapes, so that if the garland spins on your tree the pictures will be upright. Ahh trial and error!

Supplies:
I used 2 sheets 12 x 12 Pattern Paper (double sided)
2 sheets 12 x 12 Cardstock
4 yards of Red and White Baker's Twine Online Resource: The Twinery
Sticker Numbers or Die cut numbers with Cricut Machine using glitter paper scraps
Misc Jewels, buttons

I also used:
1 1/2" Circle Punch
2" Circle Punch
2 1/2" Circle Punch
2" Scallop Circle Punch
Cricut Cartridges: Accent Essentials, George, Alphalicious (for the numbers)

Instructions:
Print your photos in wallet size (2x3). A free software program to create wallet sizes is Photo Sheet I used 18 photos-print two of each.
Use 1 1/2 and 2" circle punches to punch out photos.

Cut out shapes from pattern paper and cardstock- you need 2 shapes for each ornament, the twine will be sandwiched between. I used scallop circle, circle and star burst.
Cut out or punch out stars from patterned paper- you need 2 for each ornament. I used a 2" star.
Glue photos onto the fronts of each shape.
Apply wet glue on the backside of the shape, lay the bakers twine down the center and adhere matching shape to the other side. Leave about 2 - 3" between each shape.
Continue alternating shapes, and stars. Leave about 12" of twine at each end.
Embellish star shapes with jewels, buttons, paper punch outs, etc.
If you are hanging your garland on a tree adhere at matching photo onto the back of the ornament- upside down. This is so when it spins around it will be right side up.
Add sticker or die cut numbers for the year. Hang your garland and enjoy!

10 Days of Photo Ornaments- Day Three

Happy Rainy Sunday!

This is just the kind of day to stay in and scrapbook- which is what we are going to do this afternoon!

Here is our 3rd ornament, a mini album to hang on your tree. This would also be a cute little Christmas card to send to someone special.

Supplies:
4x6 Pattern paper or Cardstock for cover
3-3 3/4 x 5 1/2 pieces of Cardstock for the Pages
4-5 3x5 1/2 pieces of coordinating Pattern Paper
24" of ribbon

Directions:
Score and fold cover. Punch holes in cover for ribbon to tie album shut and for ribbon to hang.
Thread ribbon through as shown. 8" for top hanging loop, 16" to tie album shut.
Score and fold cardstock pages in half. Glue pages together as shown.

Score and fold patterned paper or cardstock pieces (3 x 5 1/2). Adhere half of piece to front of cardstock album pages and half inside of the album cover. Repeat for the back cover.
Use remaining pieces to decorate the pages.

10 Days of Photo Ornaments- Day 2

Happy Saturday Holiday Chicks!

Today's photo ornament is one of my favorites- it is a series of circles that fold out and spin like a carousel on your tree.

So cute, plus it folds flat for storage or to send to someone.

Supplies:
4-6x6 pieces of cardstock or cardstock weight patterned paper
6" of ribbon or trim for the hanging loop
12" of ribbon or trim to tie open
Coordinating scraps for the photo mats
Misc embellishments to decorate your ornament
Directions:
Cut out at least 4 circles- 5 1/2- 6" in diameter. You can use your Cricut, circle cutter, or trace a bowl or plate and cut out.

Fold circle in half

Fold again into fourths

Open up and cut along one of the fold lines (red in photo) to the center

Fold cut pieces up and then fold each of the quarters again into an eighth of a circle.

Put adhesive on the back of one of those pieces and adhere on top of the other piece.

Repeat with all 4 circles. Fold hanging loop (6" of ribbon or trim) in half, glue along upper folded edge of one circle.

Glue circles together along sides, leaving two sides unglued as the opening.

Punch holes in the two open sides, thread 12" of ribbon though and tie to keep ornament open.
Punch out four 1" circles and adhere along outside edge, one circle on each piece. Add the year with stickers or die cut numbers.

Mat your photos on scraps of cardstock and adhere.
