Day 4 Glass Light Photo Display-10 Days of Christmas Gifts

Happy Holiday Gift Making Day 4!

Today our project is a cool photo display using a glass block light. The light is from Ikea (I found so many cool things there this year). It measures 4x4x9, and is made from frosted glass. Very beautiful, and affordable at just $7.99. If you didn't want to use photos you could also decorate this with vinyl words or beautiful paper or stamped images.

I wrapped my lights with a piece of scrapbooking transparency and then adhered the transparency along the bottom edge and up the side edge. I covered my bottom adhesive with ribbon- you could also use buttons or paper scraps. My photos slip underneath the transparency from the top (you don't use adhesive along the top edge) for a fantastic display.

Shopping List:
GRÖNÖ glass light from Ikea ($7.99)

12 x 12 Transparency
Ribbon-3 feet of ribbon if you want to lace up the side, 2 feet of ribbon if you want to wrap around the top and bottom
12 x 12 Paper or Cardstock-if desired for matting photos- you can also use a piece of paper between the light and your transparency- I did this in the laced lamp.

Rub ons or stamps and Stayzon ink to decorate the top of the light

Lets get started!

Step One
· Peel label off the lamp, clean off any finger prints, etc.
Step Two
· Cut your transparency sheet into two pieces, 6x12.
· If you want to lace your lamp on the side (see example below), you will do this now, if not skip Step Three
Step Three
· Punch 7 holes on left edge and right edge of transparency.
· Lace the ribbon starting on the outside, criss cross ribbon on the back side of transparency and come back up through the holes. Repeat until you get to the top, tie ribbon in a knot and then a bow.
· Trim piece so it is 6 x 16

Step Four- this is if you are not lacing your sheets together
· Using Red Super Tape, adhere the two sheets together, trim to 6 x 16
Step Five
· Apply Red super tape all along bottom edge of transparency and up ONE of the sides. This side will be on the outside.
· Starting on the back, peel the tape back about 4” at a time and adhere transparency along bottom edge of lamp. Peel off the tape on the side and adhere together. Step Six
· Add Rub Ons, Stamp images with Stayzon or Stayzon Opaque, add trim or ribbon around the top or bottom
· Slide your photos into the transparency sleeves. Turn on and enjoy!

Day 3 Cookie Sheet Message Board-10 Days of Christmas Gifts

Happy Holiday Gift Making Day 3!

Today our project is a fun one, it is a cookie sheet message board center. I love these kind of projects because you can make them from just a few bits and pieces from your stash. We did this with the word CREATE- but you can easily personalize this with a name.

There are a few essential items to get started:

Supplies:

Cookie Sheet- I bought mine at Dollar Tree- it cost- you guessed it $1

Cork Board- you only use a small piece, you could make several of these from just one cork tile

2 or 3- 12 x 12 Patterned Papers (I used 2 double sided pieces)
Coordinating Letters-or you can cut with Cricut
Printable Calendars-(right click on each of the images and "SAVE PICTURE AS", save to your hard drive and then open with your favorite photo program and print on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper

Paint-I just used craft acrylic paint, you could also use spray paint

Magnets

Thumb Tacks

2 small binder clips
Flowers
Dots for flower centers
2 feet ribbon to decorate board
1 foot each of 2 different ribbons for letters
2 feet wider ribbon for hanging
3 buttons
1 foot twine or floss for button holes
Tools and Adhesives:
Trimmer, Scissors, Corner Rounder, Cropadile, Black or Brown Ink, Red Tape or other super strong tape, Glue dots or other glue to attach ribbon, foam tape or pop dots

Lets get started!

Use Cropadile to punch two holes in the top of cookie sheet, about 3” from each edge.
Paint edges and in about 1” into center of sheet.
Cut each patterned Paper-8 3/4 (w) x 4 1/2 (h), you can overlap them slightly. You will need to alter the measurements to fit your cookie sheet.
Round upper and lower corners, ink if desired.
Adhere papers using Red Super Tape or other very strong adhesive.
Glue ribbon across paper seams.
Cut cork board to 3 1/2 x 7 and glue at bottom-you can ink the edges of cork if desiredTitle-Ink edges of letters. Tie ribbon on some letters, add buttons to others, add flowers, etc.
Attach letters using foam tape or pop dots.

Calendar and Magnet Clips:
Cut calendar pages apart.
Cut piece of scrap paper and glue to clips. Glue magnet on the back of clips.
Use Super tape to attach magnets to back of flowers, add centers.
Use Super tape to attach thumb tacks to flowers, add centers.
Tie ribbon through cookie sheet and hang!

Day 2 Photo Cube-10 Days of Christmas Gifts

This fun and easy project looks great sitting on the desk of someone that you love- a perfect gift. I used a gift box, but if you wanted something more substantial you could use a 4x4x4 wood cube. (they sell them at Ben Franklin in Redmond if you live in the Seattle area).

Supplies:
4x4x4 Gift Box-white or brown
2 sheets 12 x 12 Paper
2 feet ribbon
Chipboard Letters
Large Metal Rim Tag
Chalk Ink

Also needed: Paper Trimmer, scissors, brown pen, 1 3/8” circle punch, and photos of course!
Instructions:
Fold gift box together. Use adhesive on flaps to close box

Cut papers into 4x4 pieces-you need 6 pieces. Adhere a piece to each side of box. Ink all edges if desired.

Cut photos to fit on sides of box. I used one 4x4 photo and then 3x4 photos for the other surfaces.
Punch 1 3/8” circle from scrap paper. Write date on circle and add to circle tag.
Wrap ribbon around box-use adhesive to secure. Tie ribbon along top, thread on circle tag and then tie again.
Add chipboard letters to spell “together”.
Adhere photos to box sides. Add the word “JOY” along one photo.
Enjoy!

Day 1 Photo Clock-10 Days of Christmas Gifts

We are so excited to bring you 10 days of inexpensive and quick gift ideas, today's idea is a Photo Clock. I have made a bunch of these for presents over the years- they are always a hit.
Supply List: Clock from Ikea (just like the clock shown) $1.99 - can you believe they are so inexpensive?

1 sheet of 12 x 12 Patterned Paper

1 sheet of 12 x 12 Cardstock- you don't need an entire sheet, you can just use scraps

Sticker numbers or use Cricut or other die cut machine to cut numbers

Misc. Embellishments- Rub Ons for outside of clock edge, ribbon or trim to decorate clock face, silver paint pen to paint clock hands, sticker quote or printed quote to add to clock face.

2 feet of ribbon to hang (optional for hanging)

Tools: Cropadile (I punched holes in the outside of my clock and hang with a ribbon-you could skip this step)

This is how I created the clock above, you can personalize yours however you like.

1. Gently pry off the clock front. Carefully pull off the clock hands.

2.Use Silver or gold paint pen to paint second hand. Set aside.
3. Use clock face to trace circle on patterned paper and cut out.
4. Use old clock face to mark position of center hole and number placement. Use anywhere hole punch or scissors to make center hole.
5. Figure out photo placement, mat with textured cardstock and adhere-make sure that edges are firmly secured.

6. Print quote on cardstock or clear sticker paper, add quote to background paper, smear white paint onto quote area if paper is too dark. Make sure that the paint is completely dry before you adhere quote.
7. Mark position of numbers using old clock face. Add numbers.
8. Add embellishments to clock face- remember that the hands need to be able to move on top of anything that you place on the clock face.
9. Use cropadile to punch two holes for ribbon hanger in clock frame.
10. Add rub ons on outside of clock frame or onto lens over clock face.
11. Layer clock hands back onto motor. Snap lens back on front of clock.

Here is another version of the same size clock that I made using different supplies. I added flowers and brads around the edges to mark the hours where I didn't use numbers.

To use the quote, right click on it with your mouse and select "save pictures as". Save it on your computer and you can print it just like any photo or image.

Here are some samples of photo clocks that I found online for some additional inspiration. They are all from the 2 Peas in a Bucket gallery and I have had them saved for so long I don't remember who the original artists are. They have some different ideas for photo placement.

Our Holiday Gift to You- 10 Days of Gifts for $10 or less

Hey Chick Friends
We are going to do something a little different this year- last year I did 10 days of photo ornaments, this year I am going to show 10 days of fast and easy handmade gifts (mostly scrapbooking or papercraft related) that you can make for less than $10. Some of these are going to be way way cheaper than $10.

I don't know about you all but I am always looking for some great last minute handmade stuff and I certainly have a large stash of supplies to "shop" from to get my projects done.

I will be posting the first project tomorrow- Sunday December 11th and we will continue through December 20th.
